Important global outbreak alert by CECC
CECC confirms 17,085 more COVID-19 cases, including 16,936 domestic cases and 149 imported cases
On May 1, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 17,085 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 17,085 new cases, 16,936 are domestic and 149 are imported (138 of them tested positive after landing). The CECC also announced three deaths today.
Regarding the 16,936 new domestic cases, 8,201 are male and 8,725 are female while the gender of the other 10 is still under investigation. They range in age from under five to 99 years. They suffered the onset of symptoms between March 29 and April 30, while 9,983 of them didn't develop symptoms. Of those domestic cases, 5,810 were reported in New Taipei City, 4,134 in Taipei City, 2,784 in Taoyuan City, 816 in Taichung City, 792 in Keelung City, 436 in Kaohsiung City, 321 in Tainan City, 314 in Yilan County, 275 in Hualien County, 221 in Changhua County, 191 in Hsinchu County, 185 in Pingtung County, 157 in Hsinchu City, 147 in Yunlin County, 83 in Miaoli County, 76 in Nantou County, 75 in Taitung County, 46 in Chiayi County, 33 in Chiayi City, 19 in Penghu County, 18 in Kinmen County, and three in Lienchiang County.
Regarding the three deaths announced today, they were all men between 60 and 99 years old. They were severe cases and had chronic diseases.
Regarding the 149 new imported cases, they were 69 men and 80 women ranging in age from under 10 to 69 years. The areas these cases arrived from are being investigated. They all arrived between March 16 and May 1, 2022.
The CECC reported that a total of 8,486,964 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 8,352,658. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 132,515 cases. Of the 132,955 confirmed cases, 11,386 are imported; 121,515 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 868 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 868 deaths, 853 are from domestic cases and the other 15 are from imported cases.
