CECC confirms 23,411 more COVID-19 cases, including 23,080 domestic cases and 331 imported cases

On January 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 23,411 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 23,411 new cases, 23,080 are domestic and 331 are imported. The CECC announced 36 deaths today.

Regarding the 23,080 new domestic cases, 10,648 are male and 12,419 are female, while the gender of the other 13 cases is under investigation. They range in age from under five to above 90 years. Of those domestic cases, 4,590 were reported in New Taipei City, 2,923 in Taichung City, 2,613 in Kaohsiung City, 2,509 in Taipei City, 2,333 in Taoyuan City, 2,016 in Tainan City, 1,033 in Changhua County, 757 in Hsinchu County, 644 in Hsinchu City, 572 in Miaoli County, 558 in Pingtung County, 459 in Yunlin County, 377 in Chiayi County, 364 in Keelung City, 340 in Yilan County, 294 in Nantou County, 216 in Chiayi City, 183 in Hualien County, 130 in Taitung County, 102 in Kinmen County, 55 in Penghu County, and 12 in Lienchiang County.

Regarding the 36 deaths from domestic cases announced today, they were 22 men and 14 women ranging in age from 30 to above 90 years. They were severe cases.

Regarding the 331 imported cases, they all arrived in Taiwan between December 8, 2022, and January 7, 2023.

The CECC reported that a total of 21,029,375 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 11,971,879. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 9,055,191 cases. Of the 9,055,191 confirmed cases, 42,618 are imported; 9,012,519 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has an unknown source of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated. There have been a cumulative total of 15,542 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 15,542 deaths, 15,523 are from domestic cases and the other 19 are from imported cases.
